What 47 BH collects, why, who handles it, how long it is kept, and how to ask for access, correction or deletion. Last updated 31 October 2026.
Who we are
47 BH is an independent, non-partisan, citizen-led mission to measure India's road to 2047. It is operated by Pandit Ventures Private Limited, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India ("we", "us"). For the personal data described on this page, Pandit Ventures Private Limited is the data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the DPDP Act).
Privacy and grievance contact: hello@47bh.org (please put "Privacy" in the subject line).
Status of the citizen app. The 47 BH citizen app is live at app.47bh.org, with WhatsApp sign-in. Posting photos and stories is not available yet. The date at the top of this page changes whenever anything material changes.
In short
- You can read the whole website without an account, and without telling us who you are.
- On the website we use Google Analytics to count visits. Your choices on the What can I do? page stay in your own browser.
- In the app we ask for your WhatsApp number, to confirm that it is you and to save what you commit to.
- We do not sell your data, show advertising, or use it for politics. Other users never see your phone number.
- The app is for people aged 18 and over.
- You can ask us to delete everything, at any time, on the Delete my data page.
The website, 47bh.org
The site has no accounts and no forms. When you visit it:
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which actions on the What can I do? page are chosen. It uses cookies and records your approximate location (town or state, not your address), your device and browser type, the pages you view and the pages you came from. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. When you tick "I'll do this" or "Done" on an action, an anonymous event with the action's number is sent to analytics, with nothing that identifies you. You can block this with your browser settings or Google's opt-out add-on.
- Your choices stay on your device. The actions you tick on the What can I do? page are saved in your browser's local storage only. We never receive that list. Clearing your browser data removes it.
- Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google's servers to fetch them.
- Hosting. The site is served through Amazon Web Services, which handles your IP address and request details in order to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
- Email. If you write to hello@47bh.org, we keep your email address and message to reply and, if you report an error, to credit and record the correction. We do not add you to any mailing list.
- Links out. The site links to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads and X. Once you follow a link, that service's own privacy policy applies.
The 47 BH citizen app and WhatsApp sign-in
The app lets you choose actions you will take for Bharat 2047, track them, invite friends and relatives, and see how many people are doing the same. You sign up with your mobile number, verified through WhatsApp.
What we collect
- Your WhatsApp phone number, and the user ID that WhatsApp assigns to your account.
- The messages you send to the 47 BH WhatsApp number, such as the verification code, a request for help, or a request to delete your data.
- A display name that you choose. It need not be your real name.
- Your state and city, if you choose to give them, so that we can show state and city totals.
- The actions you commit to, mark as done, and your 30-day and 90-day check-in answers.
- Who invited you, and who joined through your invitation link, so that group totals and invitation counts work.
- Suggestions for new actions that you send us through the app.
- An email address, only if you choose to add one, for example by adding Google sign-in later.
- Basic usage and device information, such as the pages you open and the type of phone or browser, to keep the app working and improve it.
Why we use it
- To confirm that you own the number and to keep you signed in.
- To save your commitments, show you your progress, and send you the confirmations and reminders you have asked for. Reminders are WhatsApp check-ins sent 30 and 90 days after you start an action. You can switch them off in your profile or by replying STOP.
- To publish totals, such as how many people have committed to an action and in which state or city. Totals are counts.
- To show the app's leaderboards. By default, your display name, city and state appear on them with the number of actions you have marked done. You can switch this off in your profile at any time, and your name then disappears from the leaderboards within 15 minutes. Your phone number never appears.
- To keep the service safe, prevent misuse and respond to your requests and complaints.
- To improve the app and the 47 BH report card.
What we will not do
- We will not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We will not show your phone number to other users.
- We will not use your data to promote a political party, candidate or campaign, and we will not send you political messages.
- We will not send you promotional messages on WhatsApp that you have not asked for.
Our basis for using it
We use your personal data with your consent, which you give when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account in the app or by WhatsApp, and that is as easy as signing up. We may also use limited data without consent where the DPDP Act allows, for example to comply with the law or to respond to a legal request.
Where it is kept and for how long
App data is stored on servers in India (the Amazon Web Services Mumbai region), and the providers above may process some data, such as WhatsApp messages and analytics, elsewhere. We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete it, we do so within 30 days, and deleted data drops out of encrypted backups as they are overwritten. We may keep a record where the law requires us to. Website analytics are kept for the period Google sets in our analytics account, which is 14 months at most.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
- get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected, and have data erased when you ask;
- withdraw your consent;
- complain to us about how your data is handled (grievance redressal);
- nominate another person to exercise these rights for you if you die or cannot act for yourself.
In the app, your profile has Download my data, which gives you a copy of everything the app holds about you, and Delete my account. For anything else, write to hello@47bh.org with "Privacy" in the subject line. To delete your data, follow the steps on Delete my data. We may ask you to confirm that you own the account, for example by messaging us from your registered WhatsApp number. We aim to reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our reply, the law allows you to complain to the Data Protection Board of India once you have used our grievance process.
Age limit
The app is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a child has signed up, please tell us at hello@47bh.org.
Security
We protect personal data with reasonable safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, access limited to the people who need it, and monitoring for misuse. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top of this page and, for app users, tell you in the app or on WhatsApp before the change takes effect.
